AMA Announces Early Release of New CPT® Category III Code 1026T, Advancing Innovation in Women’s Health

CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) has released new CPT® Category III codes for emerging medical technologies, including 1026T, which becomes effective July 1, 2026. Among the newly released codes is 1026T, transvaginal laser

photobiomodulation therapy of the pelvis, a development that may help support documentation and data collection for innovative approaches in women’s health care.

This early release reflects the AMA’s ongoing role in tracking emerging procedures and helping clinicians accurately report new technologies as they move into practice. By creating a formal code pathway for novel pelvic therapies, the CPT® code set can help facilitate clinical data collection, improve consistency in reporting, and support future evaluation of outcomes in women’s health.

Women’s health clinicians and health systems may view this as an important step toward broader recognition of emerging pelvic health technologies and the clinical needs they are intended to address. The AMA’s Category III early-release process is designed to give physicians and other qualified health care professionals timely access to new codes while preserving the implementation timeline established by the CPT Editorial Panel.
